• Wind Challenge Test: Defender vs Square-Rigger Sail. This serves to illustrate how the Defender is a far superior design than the Sail ever was (is):

Max. speed (Tailwind)

Defender: 130km/h
Square-rigger: 14km/h

Max. speed (Headwind)

Defender 103km/h (with kamikaze right-foot)
Square-riggerl: -5km/h (minus 5!)

Performance difference between headwind and tailwind:

Defender: +29%
Square-rigger: +135%

So the sail has the most performance increase relating to wind direction, but the Defender wins it – because the boat ain’t goin’ nowhere but the Landy will always get you there (eventually)…
