Victoria,

I am so sorry to hear about your nephew, losing someone is always so difficult. I second Saskia’s hope that 2012 brings brighter light to your life.

The trip sounds like fun – I’m not sure if I’d be excited or worried about the fact that my directions were pictures only! One of the things I’m looking forward to in 2012 – seeing where else you travel so I may too (vicariously!).

Thank you for this personal post. I am sad that 2011 has been so tough on the two of you. Loosing someone so close to you, and so young, is very hard and has a great impact on all other aspects of life.

I wish you a 2012 in which things will be much easier for you and Marcel. A year with lots of work, happy customers, many loving moments amongst friends and family, and, last but not least, many muddy roads

I am also looking forward to 2012. It seems that many people are tired these days and are longing for a few weeks of cocooning and rest. Me too!

So I hope everyone has the opportunity to rest, play and have fun for a few weeks so that we can all start the new year with lots of energy

Good point about the spices … they look and smell exotic, but if used in the wrong proportions, blagh! I’ve just ordered a fabulous Indian curry cook book and my mouth is drooling. It’s all about the balance.

Victoria something else we have in common – cheese! I grew up in an area (Northern Michigan / Wisconsin) where people are very into their cheese. Sharp cheddar is my personal favorite.

While I love spicy food, I would have been totally lost on what to buy and how to use it!

Thanks Dave. The change I’d like to see in the world is that family life improves. I believe that unhappy childhoods are the biggest cause of (most of) the troubles we see in the world. If we get the basics right, the rest will sort itself out …

Excellent meaningful article Victoria.

Transparency is something I feel is vital in many parts of life. NGO’s, politics with true transparency would benefit so many others in the world.

Many seem to grasp at these words and use them as leverage in their own desires though. And, I see it coming back to bite us all.

But, so long as there are people out there telling it like it is. I think we all stand some chance!

Hi Nicole, the clogs were typical Dutch clogs … out of wood. Very uncomfortable. It impresses me no end when I see people using them in daily life, as we would use sneakers. Kudos.

Hmm, chicken feet are also popular in Africa. I’m big on adventure, but am no Bear Grylls; rather squeamish about food …

First, were your clogs the full wood kind? Seems like they would be very uncomfortable.

Personally neither eel (which I have had) nor raw herring sounds particularly tasty to me. Reminds me of how chicken feet are big in Asia.
