Christmas Drive in Drenthe

It’s been a tough year. Mostly because our nephew, David the Brave, passed away. With the year end looming, we’re also exhausted from playing catch up on our bank account.

Let’s just say that the Christmas spirit was passing our house by.

Yesterday, however, a little festive fairy swung open our eyelids and tickled our sense of adventure. We dusted off lights, baubles and tinsel and got stuck into Muddy Boots.

Early this morning, we drove to Gasselte in Drenthe to join 300+ other Land Rovers for the annual “Kerstrit”.

The weather gods threw everything at us. Gorgeous sunshine, sleet, rain, hail and snow. Judging by the (lack of) frosty toes, it wasn’t as cold as last year. Between 2 and 4 degrees Celcius?

Slippery roads followed by muddy trails through little villages. My personal favourite being the beautiful Drenthe farmhouses. Our 100km road-book took us by surprise. Instead of the usual “bolletjes-pijltjes”, we got photos to show us the way. It was much easier, and quite fun … and I can imagine, it must have been quite a task to do!

Compliments to the Allroad Commission of the LRCH for organising another fabulous event. And thank you to Rob, Naomi, Chantal, Simon, Mikki, Jaidinn, Khiana and Neeka for making it a special day :-)

Are you in the festive spirit? Has 2011 been the best year ever, or are you happy to see the end of it?

    Victoria,

I am so sorry to hear about your nephew, losing someone is always so difficult.  I second Saskia’s hope that 2012 brings brighter light to your life.

The trip sounds like fun – I’m not sure if I’d be excited or worried about the fact that my directions were pictures only!  One of the things I’m looking forward to in 2012 – seeing where else you travel so I may too (vicariously!).

I hope that 2012 brings you all the good things that you need and want. We’re delighted that you enjoy traveling vicariously with us! Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Thank you for this personal post. I am sad that 2011 has been so tough on the two of you. Loosing someone so close to you, and so young, is very hard and has a great impact on all other aspects of life.

I wish you a 2012 in which things will be much easier for you and Marcel. A year with lots of work, happy customers, many loving moments amongst friends and family, and, last but not least, many muddy roads ;-)

I am also looking forward to 2012. It seems that many people are tired these days and are longing for a few weeks of cocooning and rest. Me too!

So I hope everyone has the opportunity to rest, play and have fun for a few weeks so that we can all start the new year with lots of energy ;-)

Love, for you and Marcel, Victoria!

    Saskia
